Job description

The General Manager of the organization is responsible for the success of the company. The Board and GM ensure the organization’s relevance to the Food and Beverage industry and its constituents, the accomplishment of the company’s mission and vision, and accountability to its members.

The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the GM, who has the authority to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The GM provides direction and information to the Board as it carries out its governance functions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures the filling of all required legal and regulatory documents and monitors the Food and Beverage Industry with relevant laws and regulations.
Establishes and maintains an effective Food and Beverage Industry program for the Company.
Helps the Board determine the Company’s mission, vision, and short and long-term goals.
Helps the Board monitor and evaluate the Company’s relevancy to the Food and Beverage Industry and other constituencies and the effectiveness of the Company's programs and activities.
Represents the Board’s general philosophy regarding the Food and Beverage Industry profession.
Helps the Board articulate its role and accountabilities and that of its committees and individual members and helps the Board evaluate its own performance.
Works with the Board President and committee chairs to enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions and facilitates the optimum performance by the Board, its committees, and individual Board members.
Keeps the Board fully informed on the condition of the Company and on all the important factors influencing it.
Identifies problems and opportunities and addresses them, brings those which are appropriate to the Board committees, and facilitates discussion and deliberation.
Informs the Board committees about trends, issues, problems, and activities in order to facilitate policy-making. Recommends policy positions to the Board.
Works with the Board to build consensus in decision-making.
Works with the Board President to resolve conflicts between Board officers, committee chairs, and Board members.
Works with the Board President to maintain a positive and productive culture on the Board.
The Board President focuses Board attention on short and long-range strategic issues.
Works with the committee chairs to prepare agendas for meetings (Executive, Finance, Nomination, and Compensation).
Recommends volunteers to participate in the Board.
Oversee the operational aspects of the annual board election process.
Provides general oversight of all Company activities, manages the day-to-day operations, and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient Association.
Provides management and oversight of organization business (publishing, membership, conferences, certification).
Assures program quality and organizational stability through the development and implementation of standards and controls, systems, procedures, and regular evaluation.
Assures a work environment that recruits, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers. Assures process for selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
Recommends staffing and financing to the Board. In accordance with Board action, recruits personnel negotiate professional contracts and see that appropriate compensation structures are developed and maintained

Education & Training 

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field

Knowledge & Experience

Minimum of 8 years of experience in a managerial role within the hospitality industry.

Skills & Abilities  

Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations

Working Conditions

9 Hours ( +/- 90 minutes)
